Tomorrow I will be a millionaire...

Yes, thanks to Colombia having one of those currencies where everything costs 1000 times more than it should (for example, a bottle of water might cost 1000 pesos instead of 1 dollar like in other places) I will be a millionaire as soon as I receive my first monthly pay cheque.

Although some people think the definition of a millionaire is one who has an annual income of more than a million currency units. In that case, I guess I became one as soon as I was accepted to this traineeship. It doesn't feel any different though.

Perhaps Colombian people think of billionaire status in the same mindset as Aussies think of millionaire status then. This gets me thinking about which countries in the world would be the best to enter the TV show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" in. But I guess other factors like population have to be taken into account. For example, it would be easier to get on the show in a country like Australia, with 20 million people, then in the USA, with 300 million or something, since each week only 10 people get on the show. This reminds me of when I was selecting which school to go to in Canberra for Years 11 and 12, just before university. An advantage of going to the small school that I went to was that it would be easier, mathematically speaking, to get the top mark in my school at the end of year 12, which was a goal I wanted to achieve because it came with a $2000 prize and you got your photo in the paper. Roslyn is probably the only one reading this who knows how that went. But it ain't important at the moment.

I just received my first ever text message on my mobile phone here in Colombia! Cool.

Tomorrow morning I will be working from a client's office for the first time on this traineeship. That should be fun. In the meantime, I have a report to finish, so me thinks it is time to publish this post.

so besides being millionaire how does it feel to be in Colombia again, is it what you were expecting?
I'll be back in May-June, let's plan something to meet each other there! Cartagena again?? :)

It feels like I should be blogging more actually. There are lots of great stories to tell from here in Bogotá.

Being a millionaire didn't last too long unfortunately, but thankfully this is a problem that gets fixed every month!

It feels great to be back here. I'm not sure what I was expecting before I arrived here, but whatever it was the reality feels better :)
And I would love to go to Cartagena again! But we shall meet up somewhere. This weekend I am going to Manizales for an AIESEC Conference, so that should be great!

Thanks for dropping a comment. And I'll work on the blogging more thing....

Yes, I know you are in Brasil of course. I didn't mean that it would be great to meet up in Manizales this weekend. I meant that we should meet up somewhere, at sometime, and then I went on to a completely new topic about how I was going to Manizales. They weren't meant to be related.

But yes, re-reading my comment, I can see how the misunderstanding came in. My mistake!

If you come to Turkey before the end of 2005 you can spend 5 million just on a beer.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing Joe. I mean, for 5 million in Australia I could buy my own brewery, and no doubt that thought would be going through my head as I sat in Turkey drinking my grog. Still, it's nice to know that if I ever want to be a billionaire, I only have to head for Istanbul.

Or I could just go to my local bank in Australia and buy some turkish currency. Does that count?

Dan, I don't think Australian banks would stock lira. By the time you return to Australian, if they did stock lira it would only be in the new denominations.

FYI: 1 new lira = approximately AUD 1

By the way: Foster's will be brewed under license in Turkey very soon. I will probably only taste it under sufferance (or the promise of either 1 million AUD or new lira :-).
